  Interesting. A few pages ago I predicted that believers would have to take the tack they have here. What else do they have to offer besides anecdotal experience and quotations taken from nomadic camel-herders, and the occasional straw-man?

  You know what guys - if you were all transported back in time and place to ancient Greece or ancient Egypt, you would believe precisely what those people believed! Your belief systems are the result of culture - Not fact!

  Now - 3000 years later - you are all atheists when it comes to the Greek and Egyptian gods - aren't you? The difference is that myself and a few others here, have rejected one god more than you have. That's all. We have seen that the delusion is the same, just the name of the god and/or the time period has changed.

  But your god is only true in your mind because of time and place and circumstance. I doubt many of you will allow yourself the freedom of thought that it takes to understand that. You are already atheists toward many gods of our very time. You likely reject Allah or Buddha if you are Christian. You think they are no-gods. Yet if you were born in Saudi Arabia you would believe in Allah - you would proclaim him the ONLY TRUE GOD!

  Think about it. You know it is true. You will rail against the idea - because you think it impossible to compare your TRUE god, with what those PAGANS believed then or those false-worshipers believe now.

  Actually, Jeff, if your invisible yellow dragon was giving you hope, and telling you to do good things, all the more power to you. I'd probably think you were hallucinating, unless I saw some evidence of invisible yellow dragons too... but whatever. I wouldn't want you locked up unless your invisible yellow dragon was telling you to be a bad person, to hurt people, etc.

  Now, as nice as that seems - and it surely is sincere - do we really want people to be comforted by delusion? I would rather be surrounded by honest non-deluded people, than by those smiling and happy all the time, if I knew that the smiles and happiness was all from mental attachment to delusions.

  The last portion of your statement touches on one of the major problems I see with religious delusionalism - it causes massive harm, although it is insidious in nature. Those caught up in delusion in their productive mental years will harm others by failing to use the brain and sometimes genius housed therein to benefit mankind. If Einstein and other great minds had been busy 'praying and fasting' instead of studious inspection of the universe and it's laws, we would be less advanced than we are. It is impossible to state how far behind we are as a species due to the delusions of millions of fine brains who never contributed to the advancement they could have.

  You know what's funny Q?

  If you or OTWO or I suggested [or stated directly] that we 'believed and have faith' in an invisible Yellow Dragon hiding in my garage it would be common knowledge that Q and AK Jeff and OTWO are 'screaming loons' believing insane nonsense, deluded and psychotic.

  Those who wanted to help us might actually come to the garage in question and try to show us that no dragon can be demonstrated by reasonable means or scientific study, therefore, unless we want locked up for life as delusional nutjobs - we had better either come up with some solid evidence or shut the hell up.

  Then after so doing, they would wander back home, get ready for church and go bow to their Gods - probably saying lengthy prayers for our well being and mental health. Sadly, the irony would be lost upon them.

  No, not actually.

  No god. No anger toward it. Perhaps a little residual anger toward the god-concept-lie perpetrated upon myself and the balance of mankind for so long. And a flare now and again against those who seek to defend said concept with straw man arguments, empty pseudoreason, and an almost total refusal to address the main point of this thread.

  If any of the god apologists can actually address the premise that millions of starving children is indication that there is no higher being interested in us, it would be quite lovely. I don't expect it, by what I've seen. But likely there will be more quotations from some ancient jewish folklore writings, and some vague statements that god-concept fills hearts and is love.

  Maybe they believe you before they believe Jesus.

  Meaning what? Jesus looks down and sees this little infant boy dying in his mother's arms in Africa, in a place where Jesus has not been heard of before, and decided the infant might as well die then, since he had no faith in me?   Try this Drew. Next time your jaw flares up, pray to Joe Pesci instead of God. Prayers to Pesci seem to have about the same result - around 50% yes, the other half no. Plus, you can put a face with the name.

  Lets get back to the original premise. If he can't answer prayers - he isn't there. If he does not desire to answer prayers and allows massive suffering - well, then he is just a nasty somofabitch unworthy of any respect or another thought.
